StartUpMonday #27: Fashion Put at Your Fingertips
Technology has taken the world by storm in just about every industry. And now the world of fashion is no different, whether you are looking for a cute purse a stranger had or looking to support Fair Fashion, these startups make fashion easy. They are working to bring the world of fashion right to your fingertips.
Fashwell makes it easier to track down that trendy outfit you saw
It’s easy to fall in love with the look of a trendy outfit that you see; tracking down the pieces to recreate the outfit for yourself is another story. Or, at least it used to be. Now you can let Fashwell do the hard part for you.
In November 2015, Matthias Dantone applied his past experience of working with Google and Kooaba and founded the Switzerland based startup, Fashwell. The company’s slogan is “We make Social shoppable”, and they are doing just that. With an easy to use system, the company uses your Instagram fashion likes to identify the items that you like and provide you with buying options.
The process is very simple from start to finish. First you download the Fashwell app, then register and login to your Instagram account. As you find fashion posts that you are interested in trying just “like” them on Instagram. Fashwell will analyze your fashion likes to provide you with a list of items that you can purchase from partner-sites that match the items that you “liked”. Not only will Fashwell help you find the articles of clothing that you already liked, they will also recommend other trendy outfits and items that fit your style and budget.
Get Changed! is Changing the Fashion World
Everyone has heard the stories of the sweat shops and child labor that is used in producing a lot of the items we love in the clothing industry. Well Katharina Wehrli and Mark Starmanns finally had enough and in April 2013 they started the Switzerland based company, Get Changed!. The company works to educate retailers on fair fashion buying solutions and options.
The company focuses on three main areas: environmental impact, human rights and labor standard, and transparency. For a company to be listed with Get Changed! at least 60% of the merchandise that they carry must meet their quality and eco-friendly standards.
Consumers are able to use getchanged.net to find stores all around Germany, Austria, and Switzerland that sell clothing that meets the quality and standards set by Get Changed! The stores that are listed on the site are also required to provide a 10% discount to consumers with the Get Changed card, which you can obtain on the website.
This is one startup that is a win-win for not only the consumers, but the environment and companies that are working to provide a good quality of life for their workers as well. With the efforts that Get Changed! is making there can be progress made to eliminating the use of sweat shops and child labor.
The Awear Solutions App Eliminates the Awkward Fashion Question
Every woman has been there before: at a store where you see a woman with a dress (or pair of shoes or purse) that you love and you summon the courage to ask her where she got it, only to get the response, “I don’t know”. When that situation happened to Liron Slonimsky, Israeli screenwriter, she decided to take action and developed the technology behind the Awear Solution app.
How does it work? Awear has designed a chip that can be placed in clothing and then sold at retailers. The app allows you to scan a chip that is in a garment from as far as 30 feet and then allows you to purchase the item from the retailer right from your device. Long gone are the days of needing to awkwardly ask a stranger where a clothing item is from; just scan and buy as you walk past them.
This is a great advantage to retailers who would end up with free advertisement walking around on a daily basis, but also for the consumer who could choose to reward consumers for the amount of times their clothing is scanned. Being a fashionable consumer could really payoff.
